I think we've agreed that we should simplify the web page, keep the current forum, and set up a subforum called BC Hangout or something, alongside events and meets. I'm sure we all can benefit from a wider database of knowledge.

I talked with Bob Smith the other day and found out that we have decided not to allow them to join in on our website/forum but will put a link to their new site in our forum.

It's unfortunate that this decision has been made, as I know quite a few of the existing members. They are really good guys ! Their club has been reduced in numbers and any squabbles that existed in the past have been eliminated by this reduction in membership.

We need to join together in unity, rather than let past squabbles and differences of opinions guide our present decisions. All the facts, I believe have not been taken in to consideration in our decision. As our cars get fewer and fewer, I believe the need to stay together is stronger than ever.

Anyway, that being what it is, what's happening to the upgrading of our "new" forum. ??? :)

I think there is a lack of communication with us all, who made the decision no to allow the BC guys to join our site???  Also I didn't realize that we were upgrading our forum I thought that we were only going to change our home page  ???  ???

WHO has decided??? It was never clear who any of these guys were, why exclude them? That decision was NOT made at the last meeting, what went wrong here? I thought we were all good with a BC sub-forum, and to simplify the homepage.

Need to discuss at the next meeting.

Here is some of the latest correspondence that I have from the BC fellas.

Hopefully, we can approach this a little more positively and work with them.

Hi George,

No, it is not too late as things are moving slowly here. As you know when you are in a structured organization one person can not make decisions for the group. In our club the executive can make decisions for the club if time warrants such decisions but in this case we would discuss these types of matters at our monthly meeting (held the last Tuesday of each month).

We certainly appreciate your efforts and will wait to hear from your club on their final decision. Thanks again George.

Bob

Hi Bob,

I think there has been some confusion or a mistake/misunderstanding made by someone in our membership as it applies to you guys joining our website. I made my thoughts known to our guys on our website. You can see the results by going to our website. I believe that the majority of our guys are receptive to sharing our website with you guys. I hope it's not too late to work something out. Let me know what you think after you read the responses.

Hi George,
Thanks for your email. I received this email message from one of your
members and I must say it isn't the response that we had hoped for. GNRA is
almost a North American thing and would have been a way for people living in
BC who might be trying to find other Buick enthusiasts.
However your club is at least offering a link to ours, once ours is up and
running and that is great. We will start working to that end now and when we
have everything set up we will let your guys know.
Once again Thanks for the email. Hope to meet you in Ashcroft this season.
Bob Smith

You have just been sent a personal message by 68 Cutlass on Grand National
Club of Alberta Forum.

IMPORTANT: Remember, this is just a notification. Please do not reply to
this email.

The message they sent you was:

Hi. Hope I got the right person. We talked about the BC Grand National group
and here's a consensus of what we are thinking. We would like to keep out
domain name since we are already known by gnra.ca. If you would like you
could register a domain of your own ( gnbc, etc etc.) and get a website
going ( either a full website or discussion forum or both) > we would put a
link on our website and Forum. We could make a separate category on our
forum for BC and you could use our forum if you liked.

OK, now that's not quite as bad as it was made out to be. Brian was right, we didn't really address the idea of sharing the forum per se, but rather setting them up as a sub. We don't mean to exclude the BC guys, but would like to keep our own format without a lot of external input or influence.

How did we end up getting the GNRA rights anyways? BC always had that first (Grand National Racing Association.) I think i still have the T-shirt somewhere.

I think you are correct Russ. I believe that the BC boys' GN club was a subset of the larger American GN club in the earlier days. We became, at the time, a subset of the BC club.  Things go into obscurity from there. I also believe that most of us were paying members of the BC club and received their newsletter. When their newsletter stopped, most of us stopped being paying members of the BC club and we kinda started our own version of a GN club. I think this was the way it went. I may have missed a few items but I think when Kiwi Paul stopped coming to join in our activities, a big gap grew between our two groups.

In any event, I think it would be a great idea to keep connected with the BC guys, if even only through a website. I'm hoping to go to Ashcroft to race with them this summer. It would be nice for a few of us here in our club to meet up with them for some fun and friendly competition.

I'm not sure who's going to be our representative, but someone should move this website issue along for the betterment of all. I'm computer illiterate, so I certainly can't be that person.

I could be the liason guy though if that was acceptible to all.

I believe the BC guys are going to start up their newsletter again. We might be able to contribute to it for tech articles. I know that's always like pulling teeth.

All good discussion here guys. I agree that we haven't made any firm decisions on anything and the BC guys are very welcome as far as I'm concerned. I think Bob got the wrong idea from my post to them. I wanted to make contact but have no email address or phone number. ( I'd rather talk on the phone) . Just the idea ( as Russ pointed out) that we would like to keep the format. We could easily merge the clubs and site if we wanted. The Easiest is to just update the Web Page and add Forum content - also incurs very little cost. We could easily set up the Forum to accommodate a Joint interest area, a BC area and a Alberta area. I don't see a good reason to separate it though. Shaun and the Saskatoon area uses this all the time with no issues.

The webpage update is a separate issue. A suggestion was to simplify it and use it as a welcome and dircet everyone to the forum where everyone can add content

Please discuss this on Tuesday and let me know what to do. ( I have to go out of town) I can have Aren update the website ( NOT forum) right away ( suggest $200 for his efforts) You have seen his mockup. Mods can be made.
